Certain diseases with muscle weakness fall neither in the neurogenic or myogenic conditions but are due to failure of neuro-muscular transmission as a result of presynaptic or postsynaptic defect at the neuromuscular junction.. Special tests using Repetitive Nerve Stimulation (Decrement Study) and even more sophisticated tests like Single Fiber EMG (SFEMG) can evaluate these diseases and help the Clinician in diagnosing post synaptic disorder such as Myasthenia Gravis from other presynaptic diseases such as Lambert Eaton Myasthenic Syndromes (LEMS).
